The Truth About Truth

Read: II Timothy 3:16, John 18:33-38, John 8:31-32, Matthew 4:4, Jude 1:22, 1 Peter 3:15, Ephesians 4:15

Reflect:

1. What is something that is strange but true?

2. What do you make of the difference between objective and subjective truth claims?  How did you do with guessing how many gumboils were in the jar, and who is the greatest band of all time?

3. Are there any truth claims in Scripture that you struggle with - or perhaps that people you love struggle with?  How have you interacted with those questions yourself or with others?  Where have you gone to seek answers?  How do you do with having loving and respectful conversations about truth?

4. Read John 18:33-38 aloud.  What do you notice?  What does mean when He says, "My kingdom is not of this world?"  What do you think Pilate was thinking when he asked, "What is truth?"

5. Read Ephesians 4:15.  How can you strive to practice speaking the truth in love this week?

"...Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect..."
